Useful idiot: 'Stop the far right by adopting their policies'
Alternative subtitle: Better things aren't possible.

It's bad enough dealing with multiple capitalist-caused crisis: housing, cost-of-living, climate change, under wholly unambitious, right wing, Labor government. Not only must we suffer that much, they will tell us to our faces that not only will they do nothing, they will scapegoat, and they will completely adopt far right policy in a bid to, allegedly, 'disarm the populists.'
Anyone with a functioning understanding of cause and effect will know this to be dubious, that giving the far right what they want will simply give them reason to go further, having now normalised their previous position. This phenomena is known as the overton window. Effectively endorsing political actions of the far right and giving social licence to their rhetoric.
Would the far right ever vote, or campaign for, or support Labor? Absolutely not.
That they can push the boundaries of acceptable discourse even further means that Labor is not strong enough. Not strong enough to resist their message. Not strong enough to enforce the actions they want. In a time where we're now see neo-nazis in uniform march the streets, while governments try and fail to ban only clear expressions of nazi beliefs, salutes and iconography - admitting through omission that the fascist tactic of dog whistling is fine and dandy.
We're seeing Anthony Albanese, and his British counterpart, Sir Kid Starver, effectively veto their own existing positions of power to embolden and empower the far right - their biggest competitors after their more mainstream conservative rivals fell into disarray over basic contradictions of capitalism, and that they cannot keep support of the public at large while supporting their main master of capital. What can one say about Labor governments consciously deciding on maintaining that course of failure?
The article quotes from Albanese and Starmer are, of course, completely ridiculous things to say out loud. That you want "people to continue to have faith in [a] system" you have deliberately self-sabotaged to only go one way. That you wholly accepted an opposition's government's wholly inhumane and racist Operation Sovereign Borders policy - to effectively throw away Australia's commitments to refugees attempting to arrive by boat - something they are legally entitled to do and we are morally and ethically bound to receive. A clear example of the ratchet effect - that Labor exists to normalise the violence of the right rather than respond to it.
Of equal absurdity, they still bother to self-refer as social democrats. What exactly is democratic about ignoring the will of the people who have decisively called for change with change of government?
What exactly is the point of voting or even preferencing Labor if you're just getting right wing Tory and fascist policies?
